As today is the ten-year anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, we thought it befitting to commemorate her life by inviting you to check out the latest biography on this amazing woman: The Diana Chronicles, written by former famed Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown.

The book has resided on the The New York Times bestseller list for the last nine weeks. According to the NY Times:

With “The Diana Chronicles”, Tina Brown breathes new life into the saga of this royal ‘icon of blondness’ by astutely revealing just how powerful, and how marketable, her story became in the age of modern celebrity journalism.”

I remember coincidentally being in London on business the very week after Diana’s death. The outpouring of emotion by The People was beyond words. Each day endless flowers, teddie bears, and framed photographs piled up in front of Buckingham Palace. Each night they were taken to children in hospitals, and the next day they were replenished in even great supply. I remember asking myself who in America could draw this kind of expression. John Kennedy? Martin Luther King? The loss of anyone alive today? Whatever we may think of Diana, she was completely unique in her connection to The People. So magical, so tragic. A fairytale for ever more.

This book is an amazing chronicle of the public and often very private life of Diana, Princess of Wales. It is a shocking and revelatory look at a true royal rebel. She set out to bring the Windsor family into modern times and ended up spent, bitter and very unhappy as a result. She was a master at PR and knew how to play the media to both the detriment of the royals and her own benefit as needed. This portrait of Diana as a battered royal and victim of a thankless and hopeless marriage is incredible. We all thought we knew Diana, and you will discover that she created her entire persona due to her own insecurities and dark upbringing. This book is not trashy and does not demean her memory, but it does give you a look inside the real Diana and what her life was like. A terrific read.
