This year’s election is shaping up not only to be a great one for controversy, but a great one for fashion.
Well, depending on who you talk to.
Rumor has it that most designers and salesclerks at high end stores are staying mum on Sarah Palin’s donning of designers like Valentino, Kawasaki, and more. WWD.COM reports: ““I am not commenting on this one,” Saks Fifth Avenue fashion director Michael Fink replied when asked about the $2,500 silk shantung Valentino jacket Palin wore to the Republican National Convention that was reportedly purchased at Saks.”
On the flip side, up-and-coming designer Thakoon is pleased that Michelle Obama is sporting his floral creations. And according to Vanity Fair, this was Cindy McCain’s outfit at the Republican National Convention:
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100
Holy couture! A $313,000 outfit? I guess fashion and politics work OK together after all…
