Celebrating Dad

We pay a lot of attention to mother’s day because, really, it’s a lot of fun to shop for mom, isn’t it? It can be entertaining to shop for dad, too. While moms love things that make them look pretty–or are pretty to look at–dads like things they can use. Here are a few ideas that will make his life more enjoyable:

Talking Grill Thermometer $60 at Rush Gideon

Talking Grill Thermometer $60 at Rush Gideon

If your house is anything like my parent’s house, there are usually “discussions” about when the steaks or ribs are ready to come off the grill. Eliminate the stress with a talking grill thermometer. Simply insert the probe, then program your choice of meat: beef, lamb, veal, hamburger, pork, turkey, chicken or fish; and your choice of doneness: rare, medium rare, medium or well done. Then the iron chef can wander around and the thermometer will verbally notify him the meat is ready to go.

Krups BeerTender $199.95 at Williams-Sonoma

The Krups Beertender is a cool gift idea for any guy who loves pub-style draft beer. This sleek countertop appliance works with Heineken’s compact 5-liter draught kegs and lets dad choose from three temperature settings that chills the beer to his idea of perfection.
