If you don’t know who Jeff Buckley is, please drop EVERYTHING you’re doing and listen to and/or watch this. It’s only the most amazing version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” ever from Jeff Buckley’s album Grace. Besides being one of my favorite musicians, Jeff Buckley was notable for his amazing range, fantastic falsetto, and ability to combine a folksy sound with a melodic, soulful one. He drew his inspirations from musicians that ranged from Edith Piaf and Bob Dylan to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and The Smiths.
Sadly, Buckley died early at age 31 in a drowning accident and we never quite got to see where he was headed with his career, but his albums Grace and Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk were well-received and now a brand new documentary DVD and CD taken from his past Grace world tours has just been released. The DVD features 2 discs with 29 tracks under the Sony Legacy label and retails for around $20. Curl up with some candles, a glass of wine, his music on your stereo, and call it a night…
