In the Trenches: Cool Updates to a Classic Coat

In the Trenches: Cool Updates to a Classic Coat

At brunch yesterday I spied the perfect trench coat: It was a classic khaki with gold-toned hardware, but had pleat-ruffled cuffs, an open neck and turned up collar. Of course, the woman wearing it found it at some little discount store, so I couldn’t rush right out and buy it (drat!), but it sent me on a hunt for the perfect spring trench. Knee length and khaki is the iconic image, but I prefer the slight variations in cut, color or styling to add a little flare. Here are some of my favorites.

Above: This bold Rachel by Rachel Roy Ink Splatter Trench mixes beautiful tailoring with a graphic print. It’s sure to get you noticed!

The cropped length, bright color and big buttons and collar make the Ellen Tracy Hooded Trench a modern version of an old favorite.

For anyone who found the classic trench a little too masculine, ruffle details give the Tahari ‘Eve’ Asymmetrical Ruffle Trench Coat a feminine twist.

Slouchy military styling makes the GUESS Melody Trench look cool and casual.
