I saw this room scene in the Wisteria catalog recently and thought it was one of those rooms that has a timeless element to it. Cozy, worn-in furniture (has the look of hand-me-downs) and graphic accessories are set against a neutral backdrop. The oversized America flag becomes a bold focal point behind the sofa. Although the room is a statement-maker, the U.S. government says it’s actually against code use an American flag as decor. Bummer! While I do think this room uses the flag respectfully, I’ll think of other ways to incorporate the red, white and blue color palette into a decorating project.

Playing it totally safe, you could just take the patriotic color scheme for your tableware or accessories instead of using a flag. I can’t seem to get enough of Taika dishware by ittalia. This whimsical collection adds a touch of fairy tale to the every day. In fact, taika means “magic” in Finnish and the dishware designer says he hopes his illustrations inspire imagination and storytelling in other people’s lives.

These cloth napkins are fashioned after vintage French prints. The soft red has has a time-worn feel to it, like you discovered these napkins at a flea market. Love!

The Corbin antique brass wire lamp has an old-school feel. The neutral brass and tan shade would blend with a variety of styles and work in several rooms.
